Top Ten Things For Which I Am Thankful

Thank you Lord, for every night I lie down in a comfortable and safe home. But, an estimated 100 million people worldwide are homeless.

Lord, I pray for all women and men, boys and girls who are homeless. For all these people, I pray that you will provide shelter, security and hope.

Thank you Lord, for there is always plenty to eat in my house. But, so many in this world lack and struggle daily for sustainable nourishment.

Lord, I pray for those who, right now, are feeling the pain of physical hunger and the anguish of malnutrition. Lord, fill them and energize us all for the task of feeding our hungry brothers and sisters on your behalf.

Thank you Lord, for in my country I enjoy great freedom. Though I have many grievances with our leaders and institutions, I truly appreciate the honor and opportunity it is to be an American.

Lord, I pray that You grant us the grace to fearlessly contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression; and, that we may reverently use our freedom, help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our communities and among the nations.

Thank you Lord, for I live in a loving, safe and nurturing community. My family is blessed to live in a “village” dedicated to raising wonderful children — where people care about others — where people pitch in to help when things get rough — where it’s safe to let the kids play around outside.

Lord, I pray that folks get the understanding that life is a lot easier when you are part of a network of friends, family, community, and neighborhood. Touch the people, so together in Christ they may find a new sense of purpose and life in their community.

Thank you Lord, for I am blessed with good health in mind and body, while many people have a serious illness which keeps them from enjoying a full and happy life.

Lord, I pray that you look with favor on those who are weak and failing. Obtain for them health in mind and body, or the strength to accept all suffering in union with Christ.

Thank you Lord, for I am blessed with many friends. In times of trouble, I have always had friends who were there to help me.

Lord, I pray that you bless my friends. In their waking and in their sleeping, in their laughter and in their tears, surround them with your love until the end of their days.

Thank you Lord, for my family. God has given me a wonderful extended family, which just keeps on extending.

Lord, I pray that you bless my family. Endow them with the riches of your blessings, surround them with your love until the end of their days.

Thank you Lord, for my children. My greatest blessing is my four wonderful children. They truly “light up my life.”

Lord, I pray, that You grant parents all the virtues we need to lead the children by word and example in the ways of wisdom and piety. One day, with them, may we enter into the joys of our true and lasting home with You.

Thank you Lord, for my wonderful wife, who knows me better than anyone else, yet still loves me more than anyone else.

Lord, I pray that you help me, and all husbands, to love our wives, sacrificially, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her.

Thank you Lord, for Your Son, Jesus. No one ever loved me like Jesus. He loved me so much that he was willing to die, that I might have everlasting life.

Thank you, Jesus.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for all of your rich blessings. Help us to share what you have given us with those who are less fortunate than we are.

Amen.

A Parent’s Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Make me a better parent
Teach me to understand my children,
To listen patiently to what they have to say,
And to answer all their questions kindly.

Keep me from interrupting them,
or contradicting them.
Make me as courteous to them
as I would have them be to me.
Forbid that I should ever laugh at their mistakes,
Or resort to shame or ridicule if they displease me.

Bless me with the bigness to grant them
all their reasonable requests,
And the courage to deny them privileges
that I know will do them harm.
Make me fair and just and kind.
And fit me, O Lord,
to be loved and respected
and imitated by my children.

Amen.
