As Long as There’s a Christmas

As Long as There’s a Christmas

The first few lights glow brightly,
as you watch the season start.
You know you should be happy,
but don’t feel it in your heart.

Instead you think about a time
when someone laughed with you,
and the love you shared then filled your soul.
But too soon it was through.

So Christmas comes with sadness,
and a yearning deep inside,
a thirst for love and peace and hope
that will not be denied.

Late one night you hear a voice,
so soft, and without blame,
and then, surprised, you realize,
He’s calling you by name.

“I know your hurt and loneliness,
the heartache that you bear.
I listen and I cry with you
through every single prayer.

“I promised in the manger
and fulfilled it from the cross.
I built a home that’s filled with love
for all those who are lost.

“So let me come and heal your heart
and give you rest within.
For my way is kind and gentle
and will bring you joy again.”

His words still echo through the years,
a vow that He made true,
“As long as there’s a Christmas,
I will be in love with you.”

Morning Prayer

Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.~~ Psalm 5:1-3

Heavenly Father, as I face this new day, I thank You for the work you have done for me as I slept.

I give thanks, that You never sleep;

I give thanks, that Your loving care is with me when I am least aware;

I give thanks, that You renew, refresh and revitalize me.

I pray that I always and actively seek Your will and Your plans for my life.

I lay my hopes and my fears at Your feet, watching for Your miraculous touch.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.

Spouses’ Prayer for Each Other

Lord Jesus,

Grant that I and my spouse may have a true
and understanding love for each other.

Grant that we may both
be filled with faith and trust.

Give us the grace to live
with each other in peace and harmony.

May we always bear with one another’s weaknesses
and grow from each other’s strengths.

Help us to forgive one another’s failings
and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness
and the spirit of placing the well-being
of one another ahead of self.

May the love that brought us together
grow and mature with each passing year.

Bring us both ever closer to You
through our love for each other.

Let our love grow to perfection.

Amen.

Prayer: Be Near Me Father

Lord God the Almighty, the Spirit of Truth, God of Seeing—

Be near me Father, for I long to be near You.
I have made You, the Sovereign Lord, my refuge;
I draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith.
Your nearness, is my source of strength, of joy and of peace.

Be near me Father, through Your omnipresence;
You do not miss a move that I make; aware of every step I take.
Do not allow my sin to overtake me.
Help me to lead a disciplined life.
Let not my foolish decisions trap me in a dead end.

Be near me Father, through the Holy Spirit;
That everything I do begin with Your inspiration,
Continue with Your help, and
Reach perfection under Your guidance.
I hope to know the promise of Jesus, when He said to his disciples “I’m in my Father, and you’re in me, and I’m in you.”

Be near me Father, through Your Word.
As I read Your Word, let me hear You speaking.
As I read the psalms, let me hear You singing.
A I reflect on each page, let me see Your image.
Give me the strength of will to put Your Word into practice all the days of my life.

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Today’s Morning Prayer: Discipline and Protection

Pic from www.trueu.org

Heavenly Father come close; come quickly.
My heart cries out; my raised hands are my morning prayers.

Post a guard at my mouth, God, set a watch at the door of my lips.
Police my mind; arrest my dreams of evil or thoughts of bad company.

Shield me from those who do wrong— don’t let them lure me with their schemes.
May the Just One be my warden; correct me and set me straight,
Don’t let sin imprison my soul.

Dear Lord, I only have eyes for You.
Since I’ve run for dear life to You, safeguard my heart.
Help me to talk the talk,
and also walk the walk,
just like Your Son, Jesus, in whose name I come.

Amen.

Top Ten Things For Which I Am Thankful

10

Thank you Lord, for every night I lie down in a comfortable and safe home. But, an estimated 100 million people worldwide are homeless.

Lord, I pray for all women and men, boys and girls who are homeless. For all these people, I pray that you will provide shelter, security and hope.

9

Thank you Lord, for there is always plenty to eat in my house. But, so many in this world lack and struggle daily for sustainable nourishment.

Lord, I pray for those who, right now, are feeling the pain of physical hunger and the anguish of malnutrition. Lord, fill them and energize us all for the task of feeding our hungry brothers and sisters on your behalf.

8

Thank you Lord, for in my country I enjoy great freedom. Though I have many grievances with our leaders and institutions, I truly appreciate the honor and opportunity it is to be an American.

Lord, I pray that You grant us the grace to fearlessly contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression; and, that we may reverently use our freedom, help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our communities and among the nations.

7

Thank you Lord, for I live in a loving, safe and nurturing community. My family is blessed to live in a “village” dedicated to raising wonderful children — where people care about others — where people pitch in to help when things get rough — where it’s safe to let the kids play around outside.

Lord, I pray that folks get the understanding that life is a lot easier when you are part of a network of friends, family, community, and neighborhood. Touch the people, so together in Christ they may find a new sense of purpose and life in their community.

6

Thank you Lord, for I am blessed with good health in mind and body, while many people have a serious illness which keeps them from enjoying a full and happy life.

Lord, I pray that you look with favor on those who are weak and failing. Obtain for them health in mind and body, or the strength to accept all suffering in union with Christ.

5

Thank you Lord, for I am blessed with many friends. In times of trouble, I have always had friends who were there to help me.

Lord, I pray that you bless my friends. In their waking and in their sleeping, in their laughter and in their tears, surround them with your love until the end of their days.

4

Thank you Lord, for my family. God has given me a wonderful extended family, which just keeps on extending.

Lord, I pray that you bless my family. Endow them with the riches of your blessings, surround them with your love until the end of their days.

3

Thank you Lord, for my children. My greatest blessing is my four wonderful children. They truly “light up my life.”

Lord, I pray, that You grant parents all the virtues we need to lead the children by word and example in the ways of wisdom and piety. One day, with them, may we enter into the joys of our true and lasting home with You.

2

Thank you Lord, for my wonderful wife, who knows me better than anyone else, yet still loves me more than anyone else.

Lord, I pray that you help me, and all husbands, to love our wives, sacrificially, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her.

1

Thank you Lord, for Your Son, Jesus. No one ever loved me like Jesus. He loved me so much that he was willing to die, that I might have everlasting life.

Thank you, Jesus.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for all of your rich blessings. Help us to share what you have given us with those who are less fortunate than we are.

Amen.

Praying for the Children: Prayerfulness

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
~~ Ephesians 6:18

Grant, Lord, that my children’s lives may be marked by prayerfulness, that they may learn to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests”

I pray that they embrace Your gift of prayer. Your gift to the strong and the weak, to the smallest child and frailest of the old. I pray they do not suffer the tragedy to go through life leaving the gift of prayer unused!

I pray that they experience intimacy with You. May they recognize that though You are all-sufficient, all-powerful, and all-knowing, You desire to draw close, to communicate, to speak to them, to seek their response, to hear their prayers.

Help their mother and I to nurture prayer warriors, strong soldiers for the Lord, for we need the children to pray.

I ask these things in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen
